2011/2012 Summer ProgramThe timetables for our traditional Program A/B Meets have now been released:
This season we are also introducing two new types of Meet into our program: These Meets have been added to our program to, firstly, provide more opportunities for athletes to do the events that they like and, secondly, to provde greater acknowledgement to the personal improvement that every athlete makes through-out the season. Little Athletics is a very individual sport and these new Meet types allow our children more opportunity to grow and improve as individual athletes in the events that interest them. Our overall program is:
For more detail see the calendar. Be Your Best MeetThis day is focussed on how much each athlete has improved over the season, measuring how athletes compare to their own previous performance - the only fair and relevant measure for junior athletes. Athletes nominate to do any four events. Athletes can only nominate for events in which they have already recorded a PB. At the Meet, athletes compete in each of their nominated events and are rewarded points according to how well their performance compares to their first Personal Best (PB) of this season. The points are calculated as a percentage of their original PB. No comparison is made to other athletes or records. So, if Bob had an original PB of 4.00m in the long jump, and jumped 4.40m at the Be Your Best Meet, he has jumped 110% of his original PB and would score 110 points. The points earned in each event are tallied up, and athletes who finish in the top third of their age and gender group get a 'Gold' certificate, those in the middle third get a 'Silver' certificate and those in the bottom third get a 'Bronze' certificate. Nominations for Be Your Best day must be lodged by November 26 2011. Open Program MeetThe Open Program is designed to allow older athletes (Under 9 age group and up) to choose the events that they would like to do. There are a number of different events available to older athletes, but most choose to focus on a few favourite events whether that is middle distance or throws or jumps or sprints. Athletes wanting to prepare for JLAC, Zone or State Championships, or simply to get better in what they enjoy, need practice in competition at their favourite events. Athletes can nominate for any four events that are available to their age group for each Open Program meet. Athletes can nominate for different events at different Open Program meets. JLAC will then arrange the meet schedule for the Open Program meets to cater for all the nominations. Timed schedules for each Open Program will be posted on the Timetable page of the JLAC website. Only athletes in the U9 age group and above particpate in the Open Program. U6 to U8 age groups follow the set Program A/Program B rotation. On the day of competition athletes only do the events that they nominated. If an athlete has not nominated for any events on that day, JLAC will allow the athlete to compete subject to available places in the program. JLAC will only run a track even if it has received at least three nominations for that event. If JLAC receives less than three nominations for a track event for a particular age/gender group, JLAC may combine that group with another age/gender group according to the following principles:
If an athlete is directed by JLAC to compete in a combined heat, then any records that the athlete sets in that heat stand. If JLAC receive less than three nominations across adjacent age and gender groups, JLAC reserve the right not to run the event. If this happens JLAC will inform the athlete's parents at least a week before the meet. |
