Shared Use of Athletics Oval Policy

When the Joondalup Little Athletics Centre has directly booked the Arena Joondalup Athletics Oval for training purposes, the Centre expects all its members to share the use of the Oval. During those bookings this following Shared Use policy is in effect.

The Athletics Oval is a shared resource for training for all JLAC members. There is only one Athletics Oval available to JLAC members to train and so courtesy and common sense applies to the use of this shared resource during JLAC-booked training times. Note: this policy does not apply to bookings of the Athletics Oval made directly by Clubs.

JLAC members undertaking training during a JLAC booking:

  • Are responsible for their own safety
  • Are responsible for supplying their own equipment
  • Have an obligation to remember that many JLAC members are young children. As such they must always:
    • train in a way that minimizes the safety risks to other JLAC members also using the oval
    • act in a way that provides a positive sporting experience to other JLAC members also using the oval
    • behave in a way appropriate for young children to experience

The following arrangements are to be followed by all athletes during a JLAC booking:

  • The short track lanes closest to the Clubrooms are to be set aside for sprint training.
  • The inside two lands on the long track are 'fast' lanes. Slower athletes should keep to the middle lanes of the long track allowing faster athletes to 'run through' on the inside two lanes.
  • Hurdles training is to be done on the 'back' straight (ie, the western side of the athletics track)
  • Field sites are always shared: if multiple training groups wish to use the same field site, then they need alternate their practice trials on the site.
  • All JLAC members and Clubs will discourage non-JLAC members from using the Athletics Oval during a JLAC booking.

Remember, this policy only applies when JLAC has directly booked the Arena Joondalup Athletics Oval for training. If a Club has directly booked the oval, that Club has the right to control the use of the Oval including excluding non-Club members from using the Oval for the duration of their booking.
